In January 2010, the earth shook, causing mass destructions and numerous lives were lost during the 7.0 earthquake that devastated Haiti. The death toll rose to more than 100,000 in a matter of days, and the number of casualties kept increasing while the international community rescue teams worked hard at saving lives. As the entire world came together to help, the incredible resilience of the Haitian people was on full display, as we read incredible stories of survival and miracles taking place every day in many parts of the island of Port-Au-Prince.

The humongous generosity and compassion people shown from all over the world has been impressive. More impressive is the incredible history of an Island that however financially challenged it may be, has been and remain an inspiration for many countries across Latin America, USA and Africa.

In 1804, following a fierce and bloody war, Haiti became the first black independent state of the Caribbean and was at some point the wealthiest country in the whole region. However, in western media, Haiti has been solely described as the poorest nation of the “Northern Hemisphere” so Wahala is here to investigate the “other side” of the story of Haiti and set the record straight..

United Haitians

Finger-on-the-pulse, Wahala is here to discuss with the evening big players, to unleash some truth from the Diaspora and spread some culture…

And not to forget some fresh videos from Haitian artists such as, Wyclef Jean, Maxwell, Haiti Twabadou, and Model Kompa.
